Materials & Care

At Heritage & Bloom, you’ll find a majority of original handcrafted designs, along with a few curated pieces that I have designed and assembled. All item descriptions will have specifications about the material used, but please use the guide below for more information on how to best care for your new pieces.

ALL JEWELRY
Please treat your new jewelry with love and care and avoid wearing them in the shower, pool, exercising, or while sleeping. Apply perfume, lotion, and other products before wearing your pieces. To reduce tarnishing, store in an airtight container or wrap them in fabric, and avoid intense humidity.

POLYMER CLAY
Polymer clay is a very durable, lightweight material that can be enjoyed for years to come with proper care. To clean solid clay colors, use a wet wipe/makeup wipe or a cotton ball with a tiny bit of nail polish remover. If the design has gold foil incorporated into the design, please avoid solvents and only use a wet cloth. While polymer clay is a strong material, please do not try to bend, snap, or drop your new pieces.

BRASS
The inherent nature of brass is that it will patina over time due to exposure to oxygen and moisture from skin contact. If you would like to restore the original shine, you can use a mix of baking soda, lemon juice, and water. Scrub it with a soft cloth or toothbrush, wipe the mixture off, and dry. There are other simple remedies you can try with ingredients you probably have at home with a quick Internet search.

GOLD PLATED
Plated gold is a lovely and accessible way to elevate your jewelry game with the look of real gold. All gold designs are either 16k or 18k real gold plated over brass. To extend your gold plated jewelry shelf life, keep them dry and store in a safe, airtight space.

STAINLESS STEEL
All polymer clay earrings are embedded with stainless steel surgical grade posts and earring backs, unless otherwise noted. Stainless steel is a great metal for sensitive skin and is lead, cadmium, and nickel-free.
